Madeline Kara Neumann vs. the power of prayer

Yesterday while bitching that I had nothing to blog about, J brought this article to my attention:

In sum: A Wisconsin 11 year old girl died by diabetic ketoacidosis: too little insulin in her body. Her death was due to the fact her parents wanted to pray the illness out of her, rather than seek medical treatment for a common disease: Diabetes.

Police questioned her parents after family members became concerned of the circumstances of how the young girl died (funny how AFTER her death, not during her 30 day severe infirmity did anyone care)– the parents stated they believed they could PRAY the diabetes/illness from their daughter. The parents were noted in saying: apparently they didn’t have enough faith. And: it was better to keep praying. Call more people to help pray. Foolishly the mother still believes that girl could be resurrected. Too bad Easter has come and gone! And the resurrection of Jesus is a story told by renowned story tellers of the A.D era.

But I digress…

Such radical Jesus movements and faith healings to me seem to be absolutely wasted efforts. Sure, the United States allows such freedoms to practice religion and pray. But at what point do you give up on Jesus, healing spirits, and divine intervention– and NOT allow such physical torture and abuse…to a child? I personally hope the parents endure a personal HELL worse than the Bible has illustriously ILLUSTRATED. I blame the parents– not G-D for the death of this little girl. Their blasé attitude gave the impression they were running a ridiculous experiment to monitor –how extensive and grave their daughters illness possibly could get. Western medicine my ass.

Did I mention diabetes is hereditary and the Neumann’s have three other children.

Im a firm believer in that religion is ABUSIVE in many tones. But Ill stick to the topic at hand for now.

I find it funny, that (as reported by CNN) this family having the following skills/trade– they allowed this death to happen so carelessly.

Father: Former Police Officer, highly skilled in determining dangerously life threatening situations.

Mother: Knows how to use the internet (as she posts vigilantly on Christian websites).

Could these two alleged fairly intelligent people, not put two and two together to help their little girl? Search WedMd? See a life threatening illness if not treated? They cannot be claimed ignorant of common sense, only ignorant that they believed in the remedial hope of a claimed being who lives in the clouds could save their daughter. Gimme a break!

  • As a religious Christian man all of my life, I eventually married a woman for 4 months, whose parents held prayer meetings regularly and brain-washed me to believe that I was an “unfit husband” for their daughter. Meanwhile, they were hiding from me a medical condition that their daughter had (Adrenal Genital Syndrome). This disease prevented her from being able to bear any children, or perform regular sexual activity. She and her parents covered this up from me, and ultimately blamed me for our marriage break-up. It reminds me of this story, where a fanatic religious family believes that praying can ELIMINATE any problem life offers, because they cannot face reality. I saw examples of this with my ex’s family. I am still a devout Christian, however I want to make it clear that many of us Christians believe in God to guide us through any of the situations that life presents us. We do not “expect” our problems, diseases, or pains to disappear simply with prayer. I cannot judge the family of this girl, and my prayers go out for them, that they may find peace, healing, and learning from their tragedy. Life goes on, and things happen for a reason, which I believe ultimately can provide a positive philosophy for others.
